Salman Farsi was born in a village called Jay or Jian which is a part of Isfahan now. his father and mother were Zoroastrian.
His name was Roozbeh, son of Badakhshan, son of Azarakhsh, son of Mardsalar, and eventually his descendant reaches Manouchehr in Molke Ajam. After acquaintance with Islam, Prophet named Ruzbeh as Salman, and since Isfahan was then part of the Persian land, Salman was called Persian.
Before orienting to Christianity, Salman Farsi was a follower of Zoroastrianism but the question is why Salman turned to Christ?
Two reasons seem to be more important:
First, Alexander attack during the Achaemenid rule led to the dispersal of Zoroastrian priests and most of them went to India. The libraries were looted and Avesta book was no exception.
Second, when the Parthians fell and the Sassanians came to power, social changes at the time had a profound effect on Zoroastrianism unfortunately and profligate of the kings changed the face of the religion.
It should be noted that, however, Salman's awakening and passionate mind from the beginning and his unanswered questions from his father and those around him about the attainment of the absolute essence were so great that his father's religion did not satisfy him.
After orienting to Christianity, when Salman entered every chapel, every monk led him to the next church. This was important because no monk could calm the waves of this roaring sea which was looking for love and knowledge. In the second year of Mohammed’s first revelation, Salman became acquainted with the Prophet Mohammed and he oriented to Islam.
After years of austerity and dedicating his life to mystical, Salman farewell to the earth in the 654 AD (33 LC).
After Salman Farsi, his companions formed many groups. Some of groups referred as Salmani who formed the Jalali Khaksar dynasty which was derived from the Salmani branch.
